I finally had time work some more on the smoker.  I have made a lot of progress.  I have  installed the trim around the door, the rails on the inside for the cooking grates, the whole for the FB and i started making the FB.

Sadly i have to cut the welds and start over cause i have decided to make the box smaller.   I was currently at 150%  and to help with clearance i gonna shorten the box and get about 120%

I just picked up my 8" SD40 22 1/2"  tall stack.   oh yea did i mention it was FREE!!!!!!!   the build will be finished by the end of Memorial Day Weekend  photos to follow soon.

So i got ton of work this weekend.  I resized the FB, Mounted FB, built 2 cooking grates. I truly think i will be finished with the fabricating part of the build by next saturday.

Now a Few questions

What do y'all do to keep the grease from rolling down the RF Plate ( not sure thats 100% the correct term)  and starting a grease fire in your FB?

Hey BackBarkBBQ

Good progress. Coming right along.

Most builders slope the RF plate away from the FB and have a lip on at the end of the RF plate and a grease drain.

As another level of protection, you can leave a small lip at the bottom of the FB to CC cutout to act as a grease dam in case you forget to open the grease drain valve and the RF plate overflows into the bottom of the CC.

You weld a 2" piece of flat bar on an angle at the end of the RF plate

Next question,

I need to add an additional vent.  my air flow is not enough.   Anyone have a good idea for a vent design?????

So the door is cut and a third hinge is added for support. I did a burn and the smell in the tank is gone woohoo.

And I only had one cutting disc shatter on me

I recently purchased a 24 inch propane tank smoker with fire box, it has an odor of propane will burning it out get rid of the smell?
