SoCal Smoker Checking In

Hi everyone!

Started grilling on a 4 burner gasser about 5-6 years ago then bought my first Brinkman Smoke-N-Grill a little over a year ago; $40 job from Home Depot. Followed a couple YouTube videos and modded it. Had fun doing it and the mods did help.

Wife got me the 30" Masterbuilt electric smoker for Xmas. Actually, she gave it to me early December so I could smoke more grub during the holidays Thumbs Up So far pretty good, but I'm still learning the differences between my charcoal smoker and electric. I smoked salmon a couple times, a chuck roast, 2 hams and a prime rib. I miss the flavor of the charcoal but I found it a lot easier to maintain cooking temps with the electric smoker. Seems like a trade off to me but I hope over time my expertise with the Masterbuilt will improve.

Going camping tomorrow (in a cabin so not really roughing it) for a few days and bringing the electric with me. I wanted to bring the Brinkman but wife says "no-go" on bringing 2 smokers.

Been lurking on the forums past few weeks looking for recipes, general info, tips and such. Finally decided to make it official and join up! Thanks to all those who post. I've gleaned a lot of good info. See ya round...

Thanks to the folks who responded to my post and to those who read my post.

Getting ready to head out for the great outdoors. Pretty cold and very windy over here in SoCal today. Can't wait to start smoking some vittles tomorrow. I watched a video on how to smoke a stick of bologna. Guy made really great looking bologna sandwiches . It seemed fairly straight forward  Might have to try it. Whatever is on the menu, I will definitely take pix and post on forum. I will probably even ask for some suggestions before I start as well.

Hope everyone has a safe and happy News Years Eve!

Aloha! I was just in Hauula, Oahu this past March. Last time I was on the Big Island was March 2006-2007.
