Hi folks,

Just purchased a Masterbuilt 30" electric smoker and started searching for some tips on smoking when I came across this site. After reading a few posts I could see that it will be extremely helpful in learning to use the smoker.

A little about myself:
Spent most of my life growing up here in Columbus Georgia. Enlisted in the Air Force when I was 18 and became an air traffic controller. Left the Air Force after 4 years and was hired on by the FAA. For the last 6 years I've been the manager of the air traffic control tower here in Columbus. So after 37 years of air traffic control, I'm retiring and decided to find some hobbies to take up my free time. One of those hobbies I decided on was cooking and smoking food. We have 130 acres of land with 2 lakes and plentiful wild game and areas to plant food crops so cooking seemed a good choice.

My wife and I have two children and six grandchildren that are the joys of our life. Cooking for all of them on our gettogethers has been a bit of a chore for my wife so I'm hoping that I can reduce that workload for her by learnig to use the smoker.

I'm looking forward to gleaning a lot of useful information from this site and hopefully providing useful input as I learn to use my smoker.
