Hi Smokingmeatforums, 

 

Wanted to share my first smoke of a 20 pound pork butt. Couple slide photo album here:

@dirtsailor2003 Thanks! Yeah - it was a big boy to handle. I probably lost a third of those pounds after the cooking process. Fed four comfortably  - with loads of leftovers. I'm thinking now you could feed 8-10 with it, based on all the leftovers.

You are spot on about loosing a third to half on a butt. With sides I usual figure 1/3 pound (finished product weight) per person. Nothing wrong with leftovers pulled pork vac packed and frozen lasts a long time in the freezer. Reheat the vac pack bags in boiling water, and it'll be just like you smoked it.
