True cold smoker - Fridge

I have a side by side fridge freezer unit that works great but is an ugly booger that doesn't belong in my house. Therefore, it will be going into the shed as an extra storage unit when I finally get my kitchen remodel project in full swing. I had thought about replacing the glass crisper shelf with a metal one and replacing the other glass shelves with expanded stainless. Do some drilling for vents and such and toss in an AMPS to smoke cheese. The cold still works so I could easily keep internal temps at 40 degrees or so regardless of the weather, for year 'round cheese. Has anybody done this type of mod - keeping the fridge functional and maintaining cold temps while smoking? I know you can do this with an external smoke generator but how 'bout with an AMPS? Would the cold choke it out or just slow down the smoke process in the tray?

 

Being part of this forum has really gotten me into scrounge mode for smoker builds! I don't do anything conventional so I oughtta be able to create some crazy smoker contraptions.

With it being a working fridge I would use it for a project fridge and hunt down a free non working one to make a smoker out of.

this has been tried before and it didn't work out very well... the problem is... the fridge can't keep up (cooling) with enough air (warm) going through to make the cold smoker work... plus the heat from the pellets also contributes to the heat ...

myself; I would do as David suggested above and use it for a beer/project fridge ...

Well poop. Guess I kinda figured that was going to be the case. I know they are not real great for recovery speed which is why a remote smoke generator is used in most commercial cold smoke cabinets. Got a wild hair there for a moment. I am not a drinker and I am diabetic so filling that pig with soda isn't a wise option either so I do believe it may become a "free to whomever comes to get it" kinda deal, when the time comes. I really don't need a monstrosity like that in my shed either. In all actuality, I don't need another smoker project. he one I have right now is plenty fine. Thanks for the feedback.

I have a small milk cooler that I can replace the door with a wooden one that has a Smoke Daddy attached.  With the cooler unit on, I can cold smoke and keep the temperature in the 40° range.  It is in one of the following pics.

I built a cold smoker fridge that is working well! I drilled a hole in the bottom rather than the top and have been cold smoking salmon at 40 degrees for 6 hours with no problems.
