after using my rig for over a year now, and actually using it alot ... doing cold smokes, sausage, cheese, ribs , butts ... you name it... i started to notice some creosote dripping down the vent onto my diffusion pan. from there the odd bit was running down onto whatever i was smoking. happened twice so i went into panic mode!!!!!
figured if i heated it up good and hot i could clean what looked like "gunk" outta the stack. turned it up to 300 and went to the gym. 3 hrs later i took the stack off and was gonna try and clean everything up... LOW AND BEHOLD it all went hard and crystal and just scraped away like a breeze !!!!
so the moral of the story is turn that baby up on high every now and then and get rid of the GOO ....
the main reason this is forming is i have about a 90 degree bend and a piece of 3" heating duct that goes out of my shop. can be cool and humid and down right cold and nasty sometimes so i guess the smoke condensates and collects creosote. nothing i can do about it. i am using any of the varieties of AMNPS and AMNPT for my smoke gens. just thought i would pass this info an in case others come across the problem.
you can see my diffuser, my pipe out the shop door and the smoker smokin... the smoke source has been changed since these picsn and of course its not lily white inside any more ... ha ha ha
