Need help guys. Is this grinder worth 400 bucks or do I buy a new one from lem or cabelas. Looks old but I know hobart makes good stuff. Want to get into sausage and need some decent but not awesome equipment.

Thanks

My hobart is maybe 60 years old? Works great. Mine is green but looks the same.

Doohop65,

It's one heck of a lot older than my 1-1/2 horse Hobart and much smaller. I would call Hobart first and ask if they even carry parts or service such an antique as that before you buy it.

I gave $375 for mine used but in very good condition. AND.... I can still get parts if necessary. Be patient, there are GOOD deals out there if you wait.

I would get the LEM for $399..... No brainer....

I have the Kitchener #12 for $100.... been using it for 3 years or so... at this rate, it's free so to speak... doesn't owe me anything... If it breaks, $100 for another 3+ years.. maybe 5+ or 10+ years service...

I'm with Dave on this one.  We used Hobart grinders when I was still working [the very large commercial ones].  They were good grinders.  However that one you have is old and in my opinion not worth $400.  Get a new one for $400 as Dave said or check Cabelas and see what they have in deals on a grinder for $400.  You will be happy with those and think about a 5 pound vertical stuffer as well for around $100 to $125.00.  Reinhard

I have a 1 1/2 HP grinder from cabelas($ 600 way back when ) and  I would have loved to have got a Hobart for 400. Its not a bad deal at all !

Thanks for the help guys. Based on this unofficial poll I will opt for a newer lem/cabelas grinder.

Been smoking a couple years now and ready for sausage and snack sticks. Grinder needs to be purchased. Hope the wife doesn't mind.

First comes the grinder and then you'll realize its easier to stuff with a real stuffer instead of the grinder Soooo then comes a stuffer, its' a vicious cycle !:icon_biggrin:
