I am from Yucaipa, CA. (somewhere in Southern Calif)

I am new to smokers. Over the last several years I have thought often about getting one but just never got around to it.  My oldest daughters birthday is tomorrow and she said she wanted to go out for ribs.  After doing the math on the number of people, and the cost of a rib dinner, I decided it was time to pull the trigger and buy a smoker... on behalf of her birthday, of course.  HA!

I ended up getting a 40" Masterbuilt electric smoker model 20070613.

I did my first cook with it tonight and am only disappointed with the cabinet temperature.  It is way off.... but the meat probe seems to be Ok.  It matched closely to my instant read.  I had set the temp on the display to 250 but the thermometer I placed next to the cabinet sensor was only reading about 215.

No big deal though... I will be getting a Maverick.

My town:

Yucaipa is a small town of about 50,000 people nestled in the foothills below the San Gorgonio Wilderness.

The area that I live in has reasonable temperatures throughout the year.  Rarely gets below freezing, rarely windy, and rains only occasionally(several times a year).  I should have plenty of opportunities to master this thing.

We'll see.

My likes:
 - Driving my jeep anywhere, but 4x4ing is best.

 - Hiking/Backpacking, patrolling the local Wilderness (as a volunteer) and performing trail maintenance (as a volunteer).

 - Hanging out with my daughters.  Including my fostered kids (present/past), I have 6 daughters.

 - BBQ anything!

 - My wife  :)

My Career:
Spent the last 20 years in IT (no, not Internal Temperature, lol) for a logistics company supporting the systems and users.

Recently started a consulting company with some friends doing the same thing.

One thing leads me to another...and to another.
In my first two days after seasoning my new smoker, I had already did two chickens, 3 racks of St Louis style ribs, and a tray of beans.
Already picked out a pork loin for this weekend and considering other recipes as well.
