New Hobby Initiated

Thread Starter

I recently became a smoker due to a travel cancelation. When my mother told me she had to work on Thanksgiving Day.  I decided to smoke the small turkey my wife received from her employer.  Not having any idea what I was doing I walked into the Depot and bought a Masterbuilt Dual Fuel Pro, some pecan woodchips, and some rubber grill gloves.

Needless to say I creosote (white) smoked the turkey and was barely able to eat Thanksgiving dinner. In searching for what went wrong I found SMF.com. Last night I hickory smoked a small beef brisket and had much better results with TBS.  I should receive a new Maverick ET733 Wireless BBQ Meat Thermometer tomorrow and plan on a visit at Sam’s Club today for something to smoke.  I have found this forum so helpful and I look forward to sharing and learning here as I grow. My goal is to learn to master the smoke and make North Carolina BBQ like I grew up on!
