I'm a new member to this forum, and look forward to learning from you folks. I've been a hunter, fisherman, and trapper since I was a kid, and am pushing toward my seventh decade; retired, but my wife and I author eBooks (fictional mystery novels, as well as factual stories). The two of us are avid campers, too, and spend most of the non-snow months at a campground (2014 Flagstaff, 832IKBS).
In 1994, we purchased an Oklahoma Joe's offset smoker, and it has been working perfectly, ever since. Too, I am into Dutch oven cooking (all Lodge brand products), and the two forms of cooking just go hand-in-hand. To be honest, I've focused more on Dutch oven cooking the past few years, but this forum has re-sparked my interest in smoking meats.
We live in the country and have an orchard, therefore, we have a good supply of fruit wood. Shucks, no use in letting all that sweet wood go up in campfire smoke!
In June of this year, we added another black Lab pup to our family, and his name is Shiloh. He will help fill the void left by the passing of our other black Lab, Remington. Shiloh is 6 months old now, and weights something north of 70 pounds, but he's still a pup at heart. We've been pheasant hunting the past two days, and he'll be a winner!
Enough about me . . . as I said, I'm anxious to learn from you folks!
