Got a drum, question about liner/interior paint

This is what I'm working with:

The seller stated that the liner was removed and it was painted.  I put a propane torch on one concentrated area for probably 30 seconds and the paint looks untouched.  Given a usual smoker temp of 225-275, do I need to grind this paint off or can I just start cookin and not worry?

You need to remove the paint. You can burn it out, Use a wire brush, Or sandblast. I sandblasted mine and it was still a pain in the @$$.

You don't have your location in your profile. If your close I will be glad to help you with the sandblasting.

Happy smoken.

I'm in SE Wisconsin, about 40 minutes North of  Chicago.  I have several sandblasting shops at my disposal that I've used for motorcycle stuff (my other hobby) so I'm good there.  I was just hoping to avoid it.  My daughter's birthday is a week from today and I was hoping to do some ribs on it.

You can go for the roaring fire approach. It will still take a little wire brushing. You will be glad you spent the time after you get it finished. Happy birthday to your daughter. You still have time.

Happy smoken.

Uggg, the dreaded red liner. I would take it to the sandblaster and be done with it. Nothing fun about that.

Yep-a-Roni!  I know you want to hear of a magic cure.  There isn't one other than a barrel without the coating.  As the guys said; gotta go!!  Keep Smokin!
