Got my MES 30 on the way. The closest plug to my deck is 80 feet away through the garage. I got a 100 foot #10 guage outdoor cord. Would that be ok to use? Thanks!
I use a 25', 13 AWG outdoor cord to connect my MES 30 to one of my outside power outlets with no problems. With the other outlet I can plug it in directly. I know that I've been advised that it's fine. I don't know much about extension cords and electrical devices so I don't know how using the wrong cord could adversely affect the heating element and I'm not sure how to Google that scenario.
Thanks for the input. I've read several posts that some guys use 12 gauge 50' cords without any problem. I do not want to take any chances on decreasing the life of the element. I plan to run service out there sometime but I don't have the cash now for that much direct bury wire.

Earlier you stated your MES30 is on the way. Check your data tag on the back . It should be 800 watts. But for further info Watts divided by voltage = amps 800 watts divided by 120 volts = 6.666 amps. jted
Thanks for the replies everyone. What are the electrical requirements of this smoker? I don't see it anywhere in the manual I found online (mine is still on it's way).
