need help with my reverse flow design please

Using one of the half-inch plates as the bottom of your firebox will help it last longer. Hot coals falling down there can deteriorate the bottom of the FB. Also ash residue and moisture will corrode it, so the thicker the better. That is why I made that the thickest part of my smoker at 3/8".
 
Cheers guys I'm going to put the thicker plates top and bottom. Iv marked up that 1/4 plate and have enough left for heat deflector to extend about 6" into cc. Hope to make a good start on it this weekend
 
The idea of the heat deflector is to take the direct heat from the fire and evenly spread it out, and absorb it.... It will expand and contract a lot... that's why the 2 bolts holding it up with oversized holes.... The bolts are just there to hold it in place and allow for expansion in all directions without tearing up or warping anything....
