Been watching my friends do some smoking, and can't get enough Youtube videos of others smoking, so I figured it was time to give it a shot myself.  Very, very new to the process, and trying to do as much reading and trial/error as possible in the early going.  I have a whole chicken going right now on my modest gas smoker, and am hoping to have enough practice and tips under my belt so that I can do a smoked turkey for my family this Thanksgiving.  I've talked a pretty big game so far, haha.

Looking forward to learning as much as possible from everyone and am genuinely excited about all the possibilities and meals that are to come!

Best,

Kyle

Welcome from South Jersey. This is the place to learn about BBQ. If you have any questions, be sure to fire away. People love to help on this forum. Looking forward to seeing some Q-View.

I'm just curious... What kind of setup do you have? People can offer better advice if they know what you are using.

Haha, I don’t know how many other people on this forum have a framed autographed pic of Freddie making the catch over their desk at work, so I’m glad I can add something new to the mix!  Fun fact: when he signed it for me, I asked him if he could also write The People’s Champ on it.  When I asked him, his face lit up like a Christmas tree and he yelled “my man!”  PRICELESS.

Flyboys, good to see not only a neighbor, but another Flyers fan.  Watched the preseason game last night and am certainly excited about the youth coming to the team in the next year or two.

Mrshep70, I have a very, very beginner setup.  I have a Master Forge MFX784BDP gas smoker I purchased from Lowe’s last weekend and a standard Chargrill gas grill for basic burgers, steaks, etc.  I originally had a Masterbuilt smoker I got from Home Depot about a month ago, but after several fixes and attempts, I was never able to get the temp below 300 degrees.  Ever.  No matter what I did, haha.  I did a whole chicken on the Master Forge right out of the box, and aside from initial lighting problems, everything went as smoothly as possible.  The temperature held perfectly throughout the whole process, and the chicken got me very excited for all other smoking ventures going forward.

Again, can’t state enough how excited I am to try all kinds of new sauces, rubs, and techniques that everyone is sharing on here.  You all have been doing this much longer than I have and I’m ready to read, listen, and learn accordingly!

Fellow Flyers fan here as well. I can't wait to see how this season goes. I heard Giroux is healing better than expected and is going to be back for the beginning of the season.

My setup is pretty basic as well, but we all start somewhere. The nice part about experimenting is eating the mistakes.

That's awesome!!  I can still remember where I was and who I was watching the game with when he made that catch.  I'm looking forward to this Flyers season as well.  Hopefully we won't be missing G for too long.

As far as your Masterbuilt, if you still have it, send a private message to MBTechguy on this forum.  He is a customer rep from Masterbuilt.  I had a recent problem with mine and he sent me out a brand new controller at no cost.  I just got it in the mail on Thursday, set it up, and it's working like it should.  His name is Darryl and he's a nice guy.
