Hi Everyone. My Father was cleaning out his basement and came across a brand new Char-Broil ECB style smoker, in the box never opened. I took it since he didn't want it. I know nothing about smokers or smoking meats, total newbie here. What are a few simple modifications I can make to it before attempting my first smoke?

If it were me, I'd go with the grate for the charcoal pan (maybe a few holes drilled it, too) and at least one thermometer/temp probe. I think there's a recent post in the ECB group with essentially the same question: http://www.smokingmeatforums.com/t/168741/thinking-about-this-smoker
