New Kamado smoker (Akorn Kamado Kooker 22 in) on the way!!

I ordered it today.  It should take two weeks to get here.  I also ordered the "Small Adjustable Kamado Pit Adapter Kit" from Pitmaster to link the IQ-120 to it.

First order of business will be to fix any air gaps and make it air-tight where it needs to be.  I considered all of the various Kamado type grills/smokers on the market.  At the end of the day, features vs. cost won out.  The easy removal of ashes from the grill/smoker was the final deciding element.  The grill is 20 inches wide, a few inches above it is a "warming grill" which is 13 inches across.  The ceramic diffuser was also ordered.  It is very thick and looks substantial.  It will be a fun addition to the collection of grills and smokers. I decided to go with one big side table, rather than two smaller side tables.  Foiling meat will be easier with a wider space.

Home Depot had it at an attractive price.

Home Depot's website does little to encourage sales.  I had to find a similar model (the once with the two side trays) at Lowes, to check out the fit, finish and materials.  It didn't help the demonstrator at Lowes had been badly damaged in shipping.

The one I looked at at Lowes did not have a gasket to seal the lid. The sealing tape stuff you used on your mini should work well for that.

Actually, they should have the good tubular gasket (like a high-end oven door).  Most likely the example you saw was mis-assembled, or someone took the gasket as a "replacement".  The Akorn at the local Lowes did have the good tubular gasket for the lid and the ash box.  I don't think the big-box stores realize how many sales they lose due to badly assembled "demo" units they have on the floor.  One of these days, I am going to start a thread with pictures of "new demo" grills and smokers found in various stores.  I have seen some crazy assembly errors in them.

I will keep an eye out then when ready to drop the money. I have a build I am working on now and looking at a new offset down the road. I may sell my smokehouse to get the money to build another one, not sure on that one.

I did the low, medium and high temperature trials today on it.  They turned out great.  I ended the day making two pizzas on it at once.
