Welcome to the forum. A little known fact about smoking meat is it wasn't invented by ancient cave men, but was actually where football came from. A 19th century inventor was looking for a better way to cook Boston Butts. He built a smoker, and cooked a butt in it. It was so good, he invited his buds over to share. There was a big fight over the meat (the first football), and football was invented.
That is why you felt compelled to buy a smoker for football season.
You got that right. There are lots of ways to smoke lots of things on this site. Find one with ingredients you know you like, and will work within the parameters of your smokers capability, and try it. Most likely whatever you decide to try will be amazingly good.
quick question guys i got my smoker friday before i left town and wanted to pre season the smoker asap so i did that tonight. I set it at 275 for 3 hrs but i checked after about a hour and half and my temp dropped down in the 230s and my heating light wasnt on so was worried and turned off and restarted it and put wood chips in it and it seemed to do ok the last hour not losing temp like that. Is this something i should be concerened with, and my amazn pellet smoker will be here friday do i just use that for smoke and not the side loader with wood chips?
