Hi folks, new to the forum.  I live in Spencer County, Kentucky (outside of Louisville) and have also lived in Pennsylvania/New Jersey and Massachusetts.

I have a Brinkmann offset smoker and a new MES 30" (gen 2) cabinet smoker.  The Brinkmann's firebox is rusted out so I mostly use it to grill now.  Looking to get into some serious smoking with the MES... just got it a week or so ago, smoked a chicken, and it came out great.

Welcome to the forum! You do have lots of room in that MES to do some serious smoking :) Looking forward to seeing some of your future smokes. Cheers.

Hello from a hot East Texas and welcome to the forum. Lots of great information and real good people here.

Congrats on the chicken, throw on some sausage, pork chops are great, Anything on the smoker is great !!!

Welcome. I'm over in Fayette county, but moving up to Grant county and the country next month.

tropics: Yeah, I loaded new chips every 30-45 mins for my chicken and it was a pain.  Not looking forward to having to do that over the life of a brisket... I have been lurking for a bit so I'm already familiar with the AMNPS and mailbox mods.

Probably going to attempt pulled pork next.  South Carolina mustard Q and Alabama white Q are my favorites.

Its Dry Ridge area. Just south of Cinci. Hoping to build a large Q pit from a fuel oil tank I have.. Construction pics and results will be posted soon

Welcome to SMF from Louisville.  If you hear of any good deals on meat or supplies let us know!

Ryan, thanks for the welcome.  I have a former co-worker/friend who is a hardcore BGE guy and I think he gets his meat from a butcher someplace in town.  I was planning on asking him about that.

Let us know what the prices are too (unless he's getting a deal of course). I was going to pick up a couple of boston butts at Kroger the other day and they were $25 a piece.  I'll wait until they go on sale...

Oh this dude definitely doesn't shop at Kroger for his meat.  He's into grass fed beef, locally sourced, etc.  I know there's a place in Bardstown he likes to shop at but I don't think he goes there all the time because he lives up in Oldham Co.

Well I stopped at Kroger last night and boston butts and BB ribs were both $1.99/lb so I had to stock up.  I am still interested in a butcher though.
Which Kroger?  Last time I was at Kroger (the one in Jtown near the Gene Snyder) they were way more than that.  I usually shop at that one or the huge one in Middletown on Shelbyville Rd.

Bardstown Rd @ Gene Snyder.  The one I was at Sunday was the one in Mt Washington and they were not this cheap.  Aside from browsing Kroger sale ads or calling individual stores, there's not an easy way to find out pricing.  I'm going to make a new thread talking about this sale.

I just got through with an 8 lb. pork butt I got at the J'town Kroger.  I would have gone smaller but they literally had nothing smaller than 8.  I figure it just means more leftovers though.
