Hi all.

Been lurking for a couple of weeks. Had a little extra on the last payday and two options, a 30W ecig mod or a smoker. I went with the smoker.

I read pretty much every review on the site and really wanted to go with a WSB or build a mini. I worried though that with the temps we get here in winter (avg around -18C) briquettes wouldn't be able to run good heat, so I decided on the Home Depot's Masterbuilt Pro Dual Fuel. I read all the caveats, heat loss and smoke from the door, to low a fire pan, horrible thermometer. But what the heck. I've never smoked a thing in my life and it was half the price of a 14" WSB.

Picked up some chicken thighs and am smoking them right now with a rub pulled off the site. No time for marinating after I seasoned the smoker, so in they are.

The reviews are pretty solid. Wood chips, even soaked, flared up after about ten minutes at 220F. I noticed because of a 30F heat spike. I'll pick up some lumps and the cast-iron pan for the weekend.

I have ribs and a pork roast to do between now and Sunday. Should be fun!

Hello and welcome to the forum, Great place to learn and share and a bunch of good people.

Oh. Yeah! I think these thighs are the best I've ever made, BBQ or oven. They are amazing. The rub is awesome for me, but SWMBO thought it a bit tangy, so I'll use a bit less paprika next time.

Skin wasn't quite 'deep fry' crispy, but it wouldn't allow a probe in without a good push and biting into it was napkin heaven. Juicy. _Very_ juicy. I am absolutely in awe. About 2 hours and as this was my first time using this beast my temps fluctuated between 220 and 250^F. I've a bit better handle on it now. with regards to the propane settings...but now to figure out venting....

Ribs to do tomorrow, so I have to get cracking figuring out marinade.

Thank you to all the posters over various threads. That was an amazing supper.
