I have a question if i have a 16lb pork shoulder but its cut into 2 8lb pieces. If it cooks at about 1 1/2 hours per pound will cutting it into the 2 pieces lower my cook time on it?

Yes, it will. To put it into more perspective, imagine if it were sliced into 1/2" slices. It wouldn't take long at all when exposed to 250 degrees for the slices to each reach 205 degrees. So, the more you cut it, the quicker it cooks.
