I decided I want a Mini WSM for camping. Unfortunately, steamers or other suitable pots seem to be impossible to find at decent price on this side of the Atlantic. So what to do? Let's make a 'pot'.

I went to the local metal supply and bought a piece of 1.5 mm sheet metal 30 cm by 120 something. Took the sheet to the closest sheet metal workshop and politely asked them to roll it into a cylinder for me. Took him about 2 minutes. Cost next to nothing!

Went home and cut excess off to get a 35 cm cylinder and welded the seam. Turned out just fine!

Next, fabbed a charcoal basket from some expanded metal scrap. Took a while but it turned out OK also.

Basket inside the SJ. Fits well!

Assembled!

Just needs a custom paint job and a thermometer. Posting pics when that's done!

Cheers /Wes

Bravo!  Way to use some ingenuity!    Get some handles on that bad boy.   The bottom looks like it fits good but how about the top, Is the lid a hair big?   If it is you could rivet a metal band around the top to mimic a rolled lip.

Yeah, the lid is a bit too big. I got some rope gasket, thought it perhaps would bridge the gap. Haven't tried it yet. If that doesn't work I'll put a metal band.

About the handles my intention was to forge some custom handles, maybe with springs for cool touch. There is this issue with lack of time, though...

Nice looking project! I wish I had thought of this before I wrassled with ebay and a pot that didn't quite fit.

Got some work done today. After some thinking I came to the conclusion that it needs a door. Planning to seal it with some RTV once it's painted.

Also forged a handle for the door from some scrap.

Not exactly a professional smith but it may do with some polishing. Thumbs Up Thinking of similar handles for the pot.

Cheers!
