DO remote thermometers need mods? MTE-733

What I was wondering, specifically with the MTE-733, is how do you set the probes in the meat and in the CC without burning the wire?  I've seen that you can buy 6' long wires and that all well and good but I have a vertical offset smoker.  Do I close the door on the wire?  Won't the wire get damaged in some way, either crushed or melt or am I over thinking this?

Please let me know.  i know I want to order a remote thermometer.  I just want to understand beore I order it.

Thanks all,

Rob

Wrap the probe leads in foil to protect from damage and run the leads into the exhaust vent down behind the grates to the level you want to use them. Keep the head unit away from heat and moisture/rain...wrap in plastic bag if needed. You can also drill holes in the cabinet and install grommets to run the leads through.

I set a table next to the smoker, and run the wires through the top exhaust vent.  One of the site sponsors (amaznproducts.com) sells probes with 6 foot cables if you need more length.

I drilled 2  - 1/4in holes in my smoker for my probes I figured i would just stuff a little piece of foil in the holes when I was smoking.Never have needed too works great.

Refrigerator magnets work well to cover holes.  Use a drill  bit the diameter of the probe on the magnet. I cut up business card magnets to seal air inlet holes on my grill for heat control.
