Hi all,

So this is my second week seriously talking and chatting and learning about smoking out here on SMF.  One thing I have heard is most likely I should replace the thermostat on my smoker because the ones from the factory normally are not very accurate.

With that said, does anyone recommend a particular replacement thermostat?  Also what I've read is that some folks keep a thermostat inside the CC on a grate.  Is that correct?  If so, what is that called and which do we all recommend?  Also I've heard of remote thermostats that are left in the meat itself.  What do they call that type of thermostat and again, which do we recommend?

Thanks in advance everyone.  You've all been so helpful.  This site has totally added to the overall enjoyment of this new hobby that I've dove into head first.  :)

Ciao,

Rob

I have the same smoker.  I just drop a wired thermometer down through the chimney, making sure it isn't touching food or metal.  Then set the base on the side handle and we are cooking.  Gives same area temp but accurate.  And if you are ever concerned its not reading right you can remove it to boil test.  When done I just unplug from the base and leave it.
