Hello everyone, I am Eric and a newb to the world of smoking meat. I look forward to learning a lot from you all on this forum. I am currently stationed in South Carolina and decided it was time to pick up a new hobby. I own a WSM 18.5 and have only had one smoke so far. I am in that phase of learning which woods and rubs to use or make. I used hickory for my first smoke, but it appears to be too strong for my kiddos.

I look forward to interacting with you all and learning how to smoke properly.

Take care,
Eric

Hey Eric, welcome to SMF!  I've been posting on your other thread about which woods to use in your WSM.  There are lots of folks here with your equipment, including me.  The WSM is one great smoker in every size they make.

The search feature can give you lots of ideas on how to exercise that new equipment and can usually answer any question you have.  Feel free to ask though.  Folks are always willing to help.  Heck, you'll be a Pitmaster in no time.

BTW, thank you, sincerely, for your service.

Fair winds!

Ray

Thanks for all the advice. I did check out the search function, but thought I would take the opportunity to break the ice for my first post here. The biggest reason I bought the WSM is because I could not find many bad reviews.it seems to be a favorite amongst the crowd. There seems to be a ton of info and I am glad I came across this site.
