Smoking with Pepper Corns

When ever I sprinkle pepper on my meat when I am grilling, some falls on the hot grill and I get a whiff of smoke that smells good. My question is can I sprinkle pepper corns in a smoking packet and use that as the smoking agent, or at least use it as an enhancer to my other hard wood that I am using?

Many of us have tried adding all sorts of things to the fire.

 

Most agree that it smells good.

 

Few have reported a noticeable difference in the flavor of their food.

I'm with Venture. I have put pepper corns in a tin and in the fire. It smelled good but the taste was not that different.

I love to use peppercorns, however I put them in my "old" coffee grinder and do a med. grind, they stay on much better. I also mix them with Capers and make a paste  that clings to the meat.

Reminds me of an old Julia Child quote which I can relate to.

 

Supposedly she said, " I love to cook with wine.  Sometimes I even put it in the food I am cooking." Or something to that effect.

 

If she didn't actually say that, I can imagine her doing it?
