Hey Smokers!

Let me preface by saying I've never smoked anything...foodwise that is!

I'm an avid charcoal griller and a former gas griller (trying not to look back!). A couple weeks ago, my neighbor, who is downsizing, gave me a Masterbuilt 7 in 1 Smoker that he only used twice. This is definitely an older model as it has no side access door to add fuel, wood chips, etc. I have no clue how to even begin to use this thing and I've searched online for a manual for this particular model, but I haven't been successful at all. Anything I've found online relates to this newer model 7 in 1, not the older model that I have.

I'm hoping you guys here can help me out and show me the way to smoking greatness, I have the capability of firing this thing up via propane or charcoal ( I have a stock of Kingsford briquets..I'll get lump charcoal if you guys think it's a better way to go). I also have about half a cord of hickory wood that I can split/cut to whatever size you think would be best for optimum results. I'm hoping one of you veterans is familiar with using this particular smoker which is why I came here, I know some SMF'er here can deliver!

I'd also like to use this smoker to do beer can chicken and also grill things up that are too large or tall for my Weber 18.5" grill lid.

I took some photo's of the smoker but I have a new computer with Windows 8 and it doesn't like my card reader, so for the time being I cannot post pics here. Give me a day or two and I'll take a small vid and post a Youtube link so you can see the smoker I have.

For now, I think I'd like to start with smoking a couple racks of pork spare ribs as my first smoking attempt and then go from there.

That said, I'm happy to be here and looking forward to your feedback and learning a lot, as I have no clue how to use this thing, but since one landed in my lap for free...I want to learn how to master this smoker!

Thanks,

Smoking Al
