hi, first post on here' all seems a bit quiet

just bought my first ecb, so keen to get the mods done and get smoking.

i have trawled the internet for the mods, but have found some conflicting results

mine has the air flutes in the bottom, but no central air hole

some are advising to flatten the vents, and drill extra holes in the charcoal holder

others are saying keep it as it is, so what to do??

i have the weber grate coming, to lift tho charcoal, but not sure how to proceed from that.

also, is the standard weber vont available as a spare part?? to save making them

Do you have the "Gourmet" edition, with the charcoal pan that looks like this?

If so, I'd hold off on making any mods to the charcoal pan until you've done a few smokes with the Weber grate in there.  Get familiar with the basic operation of the unit, and see how it handles temperatures.

In the interest of full disclosure, I own the more basic ECB, the Smoke 'n' Grill, so I'm not entirely familiar with the Gourmet.

I feel the same way, I would leave the vented charcoal pan as it is to start and just use the grate above it to keep the airflow going.

@engineman  and @thinblueduke  it has been a bit slow here in the ECB group so I am glad you guys are posting here. It is great to have you both!

Also are you referring to the web vent in the lid? If so those are a replacement part from weber and are available on the internet as well.
