Just got my first smoker - STL

Thread Starter

Hi All,

My name is Michael and I'm located just south of St. Louis about 25-30 minutes.

I just got a brand new Akorn Smoker and I'm excited to learn all about the art of smoking!  I love grilling and BBQ in general and am looking forward to learning the secret to killer Q!

I love cooking for my family and friends and...well let's be honest, I love to eat good BBQ!

Happy to have found this community and looking forward to learning from all of you!

Thanks for your time!

- Michael

Hello and Welcome to our addiction.  Many good folk here with a load of experience that they are more than willing to share.  If you have specific questions just start a thread and someone with experience will be along soon to offer advice.  All info you can provide us with such as smoker type, location and so on will help us answer any questions you may have, and pictures help a bunch.  Spend some time doing some research on the forums, tons of advice and recipes already available there.  Check out Jeff’s 5 day smoking E-Course ( link below ) that will help you get started.  We look forward to your contributions.  Have fun.  Good luck.  Keep Smokin!

KC5TPY (Danny), thank you!  I've gone through the 5 day e-course and it helped a ton as far as the different cuts, basics, etc.  Thank you for the reference! :-)

Marauder, I went ahead and got the rub and the sauce recipes.   Fantastic indeed! :-)  I also went and picked up a maverick digital thermometer with the wireless transmitter and receiver and the internal probes.  Wonderful piece of hardware and dead-on, since the gauge on my Akorn is useless. (off by about 70+ degrees at all times).  I did my first smoke yesterday on the akorn and it turned out wonderfully!

A thread to come shortly with pics!
