Last weekend we entered a local BBQ contest benefiting Toys for Tots and Blue Santa. I ended up taking 1st place in ribs with the highest overall score in any category. My partner took 3rd pace in pork butt but only because we lost a coin flip for 2nd place tie breaker. I also took 2nd place in chicken and another team member took 2nd place in brisket. It was only 14 teams but we placed in every category except the open category (we just turned in bacon). We were the overall Grand Champions so we were pretty proud of how it all turned out.....but of course we didn't get any pictures!

LOL...yeah, I knew better than to post without pics! Truthfully, I thought they were so bad that I almost didn't turn them in. Luckily we were able to salvage 6 decent bones from 3 slabs to turn in. I about shit my pants when they gave me the 1st place call. Although they didn't look great, the flavor was incredible. I screwed up by trying to finish them on the Weber for a few minutes. Didn;t realize how hot the grill was and completely charred the bottom side of all 3 racks. Luckily it didn't really burn, just turned the bones black. I was able to make it work though. Lesson learned for next time I guess.

I appreciate all the kind words! I just hope I can replicate things next time. Great Lenexa BBQ is this weekend but I don't think I'm going to compete. Wish I was, I'd love to compete against 185 other teams and see how I stack up.
