Hey guys, I just bought my first smoker a few days ago, its a cheap brinkman smoke & grill. I wanted to start of with a cheaper one to make sure my wife and I would enjoy smoked meat before we go with something more expensive. I smoke my first tri tip saturday and was fairly happy with the way it turned out. It was smoked for about 4 hours at 225 degrees and cooked to 135 internal temp. It came out well cooked and juicy but lacked flavoring a bit. I am assuming once I cook some more and research some rubs I will get more flavoring out of the meat so I am not to worried about that. Today I am going to try some spare ribs and see how that goes.

Ribs came out better than I was expecting them to. Lots of flavor this time so I was pleased. Need to do the mods that I found so that I can have a more consistent and higher temps. Did come up with a few questions so I will have to post them up soon in the right forum. Cant wait to figure out what I want to smoke next.

One thing that will help your flavor, and it seems obvious, is salt. A lot of rubs are really sweet, but don't have enough salt. A little extra can really bring out the flavors.
