masterbuilt smoker info

hi. I have the masterbuilt smoker 40 inch and I see there is another model of the 40 inch without the window. and some threads on here users are mentioning the different models.

which smoker is the most recent model? how do I know?

The most recent models have the flared footing, the controls up front, and the smoke outlet on the left side.

Older models have the controls on the back/top, and the outlet on the top/right/back corner. Many folks here do not see the newer design as an improvement, and prefer the older models.

ah ok. I purchased the older model then. I now see the difference. the chip tray is pretty much double the size it looks like on the newer model. that doesn't make a difference to other users? I would have though that would be a big thing to have modified,

looks like I might have been delivered a unit that is not good. there are some design issues on it. the seal on the door is bad. there is a pocket where the rubber should be against the door that has a bend in it causing an opening. there are hammer marks all over the back of the unit also where the rivets are at and scratches on the side. ill be returning it to amazon as it is and will most likely get the new model or a different smoker all together.
