Just went and picked up a Gen 1 SS 40 with window.  $250.00   I got home and plugged it in and it works but the remote has issues.

It was not used much from the looks of it.  The seller said he used it like 6 times and it just sat in his shed.

He even had the owners manual but it is in Spanish.     LOL at least there are pictures.

I am now going to have to read all the posts on the gen 1 and get this figured out.  I already have a AMTS so I need to find a mailbox.

I can see this becoming my favorite smoker.   after the wife sees it and doesn't kill me.

The remote had corroded batteries and needed cleaning but with new batteries seems to work now.  Now what to make this weekend...

I love Graigslist  got this bike for the granddaughter for free a couple weeks ago.   It's like new but 10-12 years old.

Looks like a good deal.

I cant find anything on there.

Well I tested the new to me used smoker today and I am very pleased with it.  I smoked some lil smokies I had in the freezer with hickory pellets and the tube smoker.   Had great light smoke coming out of the top vent throughout the 1 ½ hr smoke.  I set it to 250* and it held around 220* to 240*  so it seems to be  off by 20* or so.  After the smokies came out I turned it up to 275* and let it go for an hour and the mav probe on the top rack said 275* and the probe on the third rack down said 255*.  The built in meat probe read 248* while still in its clip on the side of the smoker.

I will have to play and learn just how this beauty smokes and where the hot-cold spots are in it. It's really nice to be able to see inside through the window with it closed. I can now see why so many people like this smoker.  Thank you SMF.

I think 20 degrees must be the norm. I just set up my new gen 1 MES40 and it too is 40 degrees off.
I can’t say it’s the norm because I have only used it one time and did not have much in it.  Maybe others that have a mes-40 can.

I am going to smoke some chicken legs today and try it again.

I did notice the smoker got to 275 when set at 275 empty on the top rack but at a setting of 250 with a little food inside it only got to 240 then dropped to about 220 so I am thinking it turned off around 230*.

I will pay more attention today as the chicken cooks.

Good luck with your new smoker and have fun learning how it works.
