Is pork going up all over the us? The last butt I bought was under 2.00lb and now there 2.50lb. It's not much increase but chops and steaks are climbing to where beef used to be.

Just wondering what others pay for a butt also. The ones I get are typically 10 to 12 lb.

I paid $1.84 a pound on a case at Sam's Club here in La Crosse. That was actually down from $2.04 two weeks prior, the twin packs not in a case were $2.50. Last year at this time I was still paying right around a dollar a pound.

Pork buts are right at the $2.00lb in the grocery store in South Texas.  Sam's has them for $1.84 for the two pack.  Going up and up.

Just read an article on the Net today......pork virus killed off a lot of little piggies so they are going up as well as beef (which we know), affected by the drought and a nasty winter that killed off a lot of herds. I believe the average price increase across the board was 6-7%. Safeway selling butts in the bag for 2.49 here now (used to be 99 cents on sale). Hell, chicken wings are 2.80 a pound here now.....

Yeah, I got the pig virus info here in CT also. BJ's vac packed ribs are at 2.59 / lb up from 1.89 a few weeks ago. One local meat market stopped stocking brisket because of cost. Bend over, its just the meat packers turn to give it to you up.............!

US beef production last year was at a 61 year low. With more and more farmers and ranchers getting priced out of business. It will not get any better in the future.

It is all over.  And there is more to come.

Beef production down.  Corn in short supply to feed many animals.  40% going to inefficient bio-fuel.

Drought a big factor.

Piggie virus after us.

Shrimp prices off the map.

Chicken prices up as a side effect of the above factors.

Rest easy, though?

Gov't assures us inflation is low and will stay there.

Good luck and good smoking.

I was at a local grocery store yesterday. It was 1.79 a lb. Last one I bought it was mismarked at .01 a lb...

I was looking at butts at Sam's and the local market and they are at 2.69lb around here. Spare ribs at 2.99 baby backs 3.99.

For the last couple of years, I bought my baby backs at BJ's (or Safeway when they were on sale at the BJ's regular price), usually around $2.29 or $2.49 a pound.  I went in there to get ribs about 2-3 months ago and the price was $3.29 lb.  I was like, WTF happened to rib prices?  They had never been that high.  Went on sale at $2.49 at Safeway around Memorial Day.  I should have really stocked up, but only bought 2 racks thinking this was just some kind of cycle.  Now, I'm hearing about this piggy virus.  Damn it all to hell.

I was getting butts for $1.49 or sometimes $1.79 but those deals are gone. However sometimes I can find the loin pieces in the elastic netting for $1.49, so I've had some fun with those.

I pay $2.50 lb for pork ..pig ears, feet or tenderloin all the same price.

Beef I pay $2.25lb ...Tongue,Tail or T-bones...

Just had a birthday party for my mother n laws 84 today. 4 beef tenderloins 4 racks of pork ribs and a 1/2 of beef heart for another meal about $65 for all.I fed 25 people and had a beef tenderloin left uncut. No complaints from me on meat prices.

You pay for the bullet and Butchering from the field to get those pricing? I know buying half or quarter cow is best route to go same with whole hog but damn 2.50 for individual cuts.

Just paid 2.19 a pound for pork loin. I can get down to 1.99 for a giant slab, talking 10+ pounds, when its on sale but I will find it at 2.50 or so some days too. I work at a large grocery store so I pay attention to the price of pork, main meat I mess with really, so the price of beef I'm not 100% on

Want to say cash & Carry had....Brisket for 3.19 a pound or so but could be off on that. Pork belly is......2.79 or 3.19 a pound for a 10lb hunk too
