I am fourteen and just starting on BBQ on June 12 my dad is going into back surgery unfortunately he will be in the hospital for Father's Day and since he's the one who introduced me to smoking meat and bought me my first smoker I would like too do a surprise BBQ party for when he gets back there will be 10-15 people any ideas on what I should make he likes beef and pork mostly

You are going to make your father proud BBQ beginner. Wish your dad good luck with surgery and quick recovery.

You could try a pork butt. Will take a while to cook, but it's not too complicated and allows you to keep it simple. Do you have a meat thermometer?

If chicken is an option ....takes a lot less time. For 10-15 people you will need a few birds.

You can do the pulled pork a day or 2 before and then just reheat. Flavors and smoke blend real well after a day or 2. Then the day of you can do some chicken legs and thighs. Use the search function for all kinds of chix recipes. Just stay cool and you'll be the star of the show. Best of luck to you.

Like everyone else has said pork butt is a good option. You should be out of school for the summer so you can take a day to sit and watch one while it cooks. Gonna take between 12/15 hours pretty much depending on size. I'm sure any one of yes will be willing to help out as much as possible for a future pit master.

You're an amazing son! I don't know what you're going to end up cooking, but whatever it is, he's going to love it! [emoji]128512[/emoji][emoji]128077[/emoji]

Hi BBQ Beginner!!!

Real nice of you to surprise your Dad, and best of luck to him with his operation!!!

Since you are using a Masterbuilt Electric Smoker, maybe the following Step by Step Index can help you.

Just click below, and then choose anything you want to make from the lists. A Pork But would be Great, so check out "Pulled Boston Pork Butt".

Just click on "Bear's Step by Steps".

I agree with the pork butt.

But let's be honest here. If it comes out like shoe leather, your father is still going to be so proud and emotional about your effort and sentiment.

It's a wonderful and admirable thing you're doing.

Surgery went well yesterday but he will be in hospital for a week I will start it next Thursday morning
That's Fantastic!!!

I am going to go buy the pork butt tommorow. I mowed some lawn so I have fifty dollars to spend any ideas on what to look for or how to tell the quality

Listen tell the butcher what you are doing, then ask him to pick out a butt. He'll know the meat better than you and should be able to do you right. You might even ask him to explain what to look for so you'll be better equipped next time. if he's not too busy he'll surely do it.

Brilliant Advice!

That 10 pounder is going to take you quite a few hours when you include the rest after the cook. Dads going to be a bit tired after surgery. Unless you're going to start at 2 am or are going to smoke it at 275 or so you may want to smoke that shoulder the day before. Just an FYI. Best of luck, buddy.
