So this is the year I plan on doing my Char-Griller Duo mods .. I'm really itching to go vertical but I've made some decent roasts & briskets on mine without mods so I'm giving it another try before I move in another direction.  So my questions are around 2 areas

1. a charcoal basket to get some longer burns ... I can get rolled expanded steel at Lowes .. I saw a video once where a guy just bent that into a basket the right size to fit .. I am no welder and have no access so that technique is not available.  So any words of wisdom? What gauge ( I believe it comes in several ) should I be looking for?

2. caulking .. I've read on these COS smokers that you can improve your experience greatly by working on closing these things up to manage / contain hear better.  Heard a bunch of options .. roape, stick on .. any thoughts / recommendations ?
