I recently bought a Rec Tec pellet smoker.  My first effort on it was a brisket that turned out really good, but it didn't have much of a smoky flavor to it.  So I did a little research & bought an Amazen Products smoke tube to add some smoke.  For my second effort on the Rec Tec I figured I'd try a pork butt.  So here we go...

All rubbed down & on the grill.  Set the temp at 250.  Used my homemade rub - salt, pepper, paprika, garlic, onion, chipotle powder:

After 3 hours...

6 hours...  Bumped the temp up to 270 to speed things along...

Pulled it off to wrap once it hit 160.

And we're off after almost 12 hours...

And the finished product.  Mixed in some of the drippings, added a little more rub & some BBQ sauce.  Gave it a nice burst of sweet, followed by the heat of the rub.

Compared to the brisket, the pork had a nice flavor to it & that smoke tube was humming the entire cook.  If you like smoke flavor & don't get enough of it on your pellet smoker, I'd highly recommend it.  I don't know what pulled pork is supposed to taste like or what judges look for, but I thought it was pretty tasty.  There weren't any complaints around the table, either...

Nice looking pulled pork!   Don't worry about what 'judges' thimk. If the family is happy, all is good! Looks great to me!
