New charcoal smoker

Good evening all, I am new to the site and I have question so I hope I don't drive everyone nuts but I will pay it forward once I learn!!  with this said my most pressing question is regarding grates..  I have had smokers in the past but they all had steel grates to cook on and now the only grate material I can find locally in made of aluminum..   will cooking on aluminum be okay? it seems like it should since most pans are made of aluminum and we wrap food in aluminum foil while cooking.. so although it seems self explanatory I figured it never hurts to ask the pro's!!!

thanks in advance

David

Hello David.  I am FAR from a "pro" but you will be fine with the aluminium.  I am a little surprised that the companies are using aluminium but I guess it may be cheaper than chrome plated steel.  Keep Smokin!

Aluminum also conducts heat better/faster than steel. Thats why some of the best stainless steel pots and pans are "clad" check out a brand called allclad which is top of the line. They have aluminum core covered with stainless. Obviously copper is an even better heat conductor but its very expensive!

Doughboy, I tried looking at your pictures but Photobucket said those pictures don't exist. Don't know what happened. Do a search in the Search bar on how to to post Qview. It looks like your image link is missing something.
