Hello everyone! I've been grilling with my mother since I was about 10. When I got married in 98' she passed all the grilling utensiles over to me and I'm not slowing down anytime soon! I've purchased all kinds of neat gadgets to maximize the use of my grill, but still felt like I needed a smoker to really kick things into high gear. I recently purchased a masterbuilt 40" electric smoker. Its not a big green egg or even a weber vertical charcoal smoker but with a little "brainstorming" and patience, I've gotten some pretty decent results so far. I've smoked ribs and chicken on my smoker so far, and plan on going into the "deep end of the pool" to smoke a turkey, Boston butt, and brisket really soon. I'll post and ask tons of questions along the way. Glad to be here!

Welcome to the board, Ron!

What were the grills you grew up with? My parents started with 1960s charcoal grills and graduated to Webers, but they never smoked more than cigarettes.

Lol!!! Hey BlueWhisper! We had a small weber growing up, but my love for grilling led me to stepping up my game. I have a chargriller barrel smoker and purchased the side fire box, rotisserie motor and all the accessories to go with it. It has held up pretty good over the years, and I've only had to replace the ash pan and wood handle. It puts out some mean bbq and I love it! I'm still using it but have turned more of my attention to my electric smoker as of late. I love the heat control an electric smoker gives and have dabbled a little as far as getting the smoke ring using it. "Project brisket" may be my next smoking session!

Hello Ron and welcome, there are quite a few members who use electric that can probably answer any questions you have. I to started at a young age cooking on a charcoal grill.

Thanks Gary S! I'm loving my electric smoker for ease of heat control plus I've been reading and have used some methods that help with the smoke flavor and smoke ring on meats. I'm still a charcoal head at heart, but with a large family the electric smoker gives me just a bit more freedom to do other things without having to monitor the smoker as much.
