New to the game and just got a Kamado Joe Classic!

Thread Starter

I am Matt from Murfreesboro, TN and have just gotten the Kamado Joe Classic for my 30th bday.  I have had one of those $50 leaky smokers for the past few years and used it maybe 2-3 per year.  Now that I have gotten this bad boy I plan on using it to smoke a few times a month, I already use it to grill prob 3-4 per week as the weather allows.  I have already purchased thermoworks instant read thermometer and a wireless maverick 733 dual probe thermometer.  I plan on jumping in full force as soon as I get my Divide and Conquer system from the manufacturer.  Any advice and suggestions with others with a Kamado style grill would be greatly appreciated.  First order of business for me is to get my own rub and/or sauce in the works!  I already have a 7lb brisket flat in the freezer waiting to be smoked! A random thing about me is I am also a Homebrewer and collect Craft Beers from all over the world! Cheers!

Hello and Welcome to our addiction.  A word of warning: There is no 12 step program for this one!  Many good folk here with a load of experience that they are more than willing to share.  If you have specific questions just start a thread and someone with experience will be along soon to offer advice.  All info you can provide us with such as smoker type, location and so on will help us answer any questions you may have.  Spend some time doing some research on the forums, tons of advice and recipes already available there.  We look forward to your contributions.  Have fun.  Good luck.  Keep Smokin!

welcome Matt! I  have Kamado smoker, grill ,oven  and think it is the best product out there congrats, on the  KJ!  my first  thing to say  to cook low and slow you need a deflector plate .. KJ has these and can be used for pizza  if you dont already have one . second is find a good quality Lump charcoal i hear KJ makes a good  lump i personally Use  the " Good One " From ACE HDWARE. also have heard that Royal oak works well can be bought at Walmart... a really good site is Kamadoguru.com   alot of KJ owners there and loads of advice on  K's. I love using both Jeff's recipes  and the Kamado. you will too.  also with a Kamado water pan IMO is not needed!

I've had my Kamado for 3 years and it's the best smoker/grill I've ever used.  Holds temps well, easy to maintain and everything I've smoked or grilled has been delicious.  They have a very good website <http://www.visiongrills.com/>.

Happy smoking!
