Ok guys/gals, I have a 1951 Philco refrigerator build and cannot get past 200 degrees, I am using a black n decker 1500 watt 2 burner hot plate. Do I need to buy an element and if so, how do I control temps? Any and all help would be appreciated!

Hello,

I am new here too, but I have been doing a lot of research and I am doing a build right now, so I will try to help.

Please tell us a little more about your build.

Did you put in new insulation?

What type of door seal are you using?

Is this your first time firing it up?

What size stack are you using and does it have a damper?  If so, do you have the damper open or closed?

Have your ran your hand around the door to see if you have any places that are allowing the heat to leak out?

These are a few things that I can think of that would help us to help you solve your problem.

Mike

Your 2 burner electric hot plate has a high temp cut-off thermostat to keep from melting the housing.... You can disassemble it, mount the elements in a different housing (fire proof) and remove the high temp snap switch, or relocate it farther from the elements... If you don't know what I'm talking about, have someone modify it for you....
