Hey guys - going to smoke my first ribs tomorrow. Got them on sale for $2.98 a pound at my local Market Street. It's nice that the Farmland brand already has the membrane torn of so I didn't have to deal with that. I put mustard on and then a rub mixture I threw together w/brown sugar and spices and some pre-mixed rubs (was running low). I had to cut it in half to fit on my smoker. Here's the first look after the rub and going in the fridge overnight.

Been a little slow on getting pics out there. I put the ribs on around 11.

After two hours, I pulled them to double foil. I did not have any apple juice, so I used melted margarine, honey, and a cherry red wine that I had. Not sure how the taste will be, but we'll see!

Gonna let it go for 2 hours, then maybe another hour after unfoiled. I haven't decided if I will sauce then.

Gonna be a pretty day at the lake today I bet!
I wish I was able to go to a lake, but I'm working so I can only see outside when I check the ribs. lol. It's a little chilly here today after that crazy storm we had the other night. At least I'll have ribs though!

Make sure to let us know how they taste!  The mixture sounds great.  I've only ever used Apple Juice or beer, but this one sounds like it's time to broaden my taste buds!

Latest update - ribs are out of the foil and back on the smoker for the last hour. I only sauced one half since this is my first try and I wanted to taste the difference. I improvised with the sauce and used Sweet Baby Ray's honey barbecue sauce mixed with Crown Royal Maple whiskey. It's got a good sweetness, but not over the top.

Here's the wine I used in the foil liquid & the whiskey in the sauce -

Here they are coming out of the foil & back on the smoker for the last hour -

I can't wait to try them!

I'll let you know Talan! It will be the half without the sauce that I should be able to taste it more. I'm pretty happy I could find a use for the crown maple in the sauce though. It's a little too sweet to just drink, plus I don't really do whiskey...

Ribs are off and taste pretty good. I don't think the cherry wine & maple whiskey go together that well. Something in it just isn't right. The ribs without sauce are good with the cherry wine foil mixture though. The sauced ones are good, but something just off with the flavors. They were more fall off the bone than I thought they would be but I like them that way. Enjoy!

Time to eat!

Practice, practice, practice!  Still, it's fun eating the practice runs.

Thanks guys! The non-sauced ones are REALLY good. And I definitely don't mind eating the practice rounds since they're just for me. Gotta get them really good before I cook them for a crowd.

These ribs look great to me. I love that you tried something new for the sauce. It may not be exactly the way you want this time but you will come up with something fantastic!

You keep cooking like that and you'll wonder where the crowd came from!

Thanks Foam! My family has had a few things I've made & love it so far. :) Gearing up for Easter. Going to have a tailgate at a Texas Rangers game with the fam.

Thanks!
