Anyone with experience with Master Forge vertical smoker, need help with parts

I picked up a 20" master forge smoker at lowes the other day for $40.  I was ready to start modding it up but noticed the mod threads show the taller 36" version.  I figure I can still do the same mods, but I noticed that with this model the water pan sits very close to the charcoal plan.  It doesnt leave much clearance for the taller charcoal basket I wanted to build or adding chunks of wood on top.  Looking at the 36" version it looks like there's an extra section of body that goes in between the upper section and charcoal pan.  Does anyone know if these parts are interchangeable between the 2 models?  I was thinking of calling up master forge and see if I can just order the part and put it in to give me the extra space.
