I know Case cold smokes with his mini but stacks pots.  I dont know if anybody else colds smokes in the mini.

So I got a 6" tube smoker from Todd.

I didnt have another pot so I am trying it just the way the mini is.

Air temp = 42 degrees

She puts out some smoke.  LOL

Hard to see out the top vent

Probe right on the steamer diffuser.

Kind of breezy today so I insulated her.

The highest the temp got was 75 degrees.

A rise of 33 degrees on the diffuser.

Temp difference between diffuser and cooking grate only varied by 3 degrees.

I am sure you could put frozen water bottles on the diffuser to help with the temps.

So the mini can be used to cold smoke in the fall, winter, and spring.

I will have to see what this summer brings.

I will keep updating this tread as I try different stuff.

I am open to ideas too.

I had fun doing it, maybe it will help some of you out there.  Or maybe not.

Good experiment and frozen water bottle would be a good idea i think.  That mini is looking pretty clean, you must not be using it much. )))

Your eyes must be bad.

I will try the bottles next time.

So how dies that smoked air taste? Shoulda thrown some cheese or hard boiled eggs in there!

It smelled great, I just used oak pellets.

Where do you set your vents at Case?

I had one intake vent closed. Get better smoke with both open?

Thanks for sharing! Good stuff! I smoked some cheese a couple of months ago on the mini with my AMNPS. I didn't use water bottles or anything to hold the temp down - it was in the 50's outside and the smoker temp stayed in the 70's. I have a terra cotta saucer as a diffuser. I also set all the vents wide open. It was my first experiment with cold smoking and I was pleased with the results.

My smoke comes from the outside in but if i used something like a amts in it i'd put a solid mass in between the tube and what i'm cold smoking.

I cold smoked a few things in my mini with my homemade tube smoker and noticed the same, about a 20-25 degree rise over ambient temp. I think I remember reading that the original Amazn smoker using dust puts out less heat, so maybe as the weather warms that might be the way to go. I like the frozen water bottle idea too.

Adam,

If you use a frozen water bottle make sure that you have something solid between the water bottle and the AMNTS. The bottle will sweat and that liquid dripping on the AMNTS will put it out.

Bearcarver turned me on to putting the bottle in a pan and then it doesn't drip. I call it my Bear Cooler.
