I am shopping/researching electric smokers trying to find the best value for my dollar. I have my selection narrowed down to a couple brands/models
*Smokin Tex 1400
The Smokin Tex I am finding for around $550
The CookShack Amerique at around $1800
I have been reading literature and reviews for 3 days trying to justify the Amerique costs.
Here is my situation-
The Smokin Tex 1400 seems like its quality construction and built to last and does ALMOST everything I need
The Amerique has the meat thermometer that can actually be programmed to hold the meat at a desired temp when its done. I like this feature A LOT because I can be gone fishing from our camp site and return to have the meat cooked perfectly with no need to be there and keep an eye on a manual thermometer
Still $1200 in increased costs over the Smokin Tex seems a steep price to pay for this-My biggest question is are there other models/brands of this quality that offer the digital probe that can be programmed like this?
I like the double wall insulated stainless steel construction of both units and want to stay with this sort of quality
Also I have an additional question with these electric units-
has anyone tried converting the 750 watt elements by replacing them with a 1500 watt element? It seems the money REALLY goes up for a 1500 Watt unit and I am thinking someday if a 750 burns out I could search for a generic 1500 watt to replace it with that would fit the available space.
Thanks for any help you can share!
