PID manufacture recommendation?

Thread Starter

Looking for recommendations on who's PID to use for my electric.  I'm familiar with el-cheapo (Chinese) controllers from places like E-Bay.   They are a SOB to program /understand directions.  The Auber stuff is way too pricey for what you get, my opinion I am a do it yourself electronic type guy.  I saw a recent post about Watlow.  I can get a used Watlow for $40-$80 and put the whole thing together for less than $100.  Looking for 110v source, DC control out, at least 2 thermo couple inputs.

Auber also sells just the PIDs.

I have a Auber running my Bradley for several years now and it has worked well.

And they don’t look or work much different than the ones on eBay for 1/3 the price.

I'd stay away from Watlow, they can be programming nightmares too.

Look up "heatermeter" on TVWBB.  It is an Arduino/Raspberry Pi combo that should do what you are looking for.

I was looking at building my own PID control and decided on and Auberin plug and play.

I researched a lot and called several companies in Canada and the US when trying to decide.

The main reason I went with the dual control is that I could not build a control box that would shut the heat source either off or ramp down when a set internal temp of the food is reached. The dual thermometer isn't for just controlling the house temp and monitoring the internal food temp.

it would have cost more to build a pid to control only the heat source and a digital temp gauge for internal. I could have used a second PID to monitor the internal temp but it would only set an alarm when the set parameters are hit.

Auberins is well worth the $277 (tax and shipping included)

pic of how I am mounting the control. Adding swtiches to control convection fan, exhaust fan and air pump for smoke generator.
