Welcome to the forum! I just did this "research exercise" back in December to figure out which smoker to buy, drove myself crazy for a while. But, you're in the right place for information, this forum has a lot of good info. I started by researching the differences between electric, gas and charcoal. I was already smoking on a gas grill with a chip box but wanted a dedicated smoker. I was leaning toward electric because of the "set it and forget it" features, they appear to be almost foolproof. I ruled out charcoal for me early, but the more I'm getting into this the more I see the possibility of a charcoal smoker in my future for another part of my hobby, er yeah, addiction. But, I chose gas for now, I bought a Smoke Vault 24 after all my research and I have been very, very happy with it and it puts out some great eats. Whatever you decide, the thing I learned is patience, you need to have patience and do it right the first time. That and temperature control, which is part patience, I can't live anymore without a good thermometer. Well, that's my $.02 for now, hope it helps a little.
