Where can I get this part for my grinder?

Does anyone know where I can get a replacement auger bearing for  my 1/2 hp commercial grinder that I purchased from Cabelas a few years ago?  After working with Cabelas for about two weeks they finally were able to order me the part I need.  Then I receive a call this morning from Cabelas telling me that the bearing will be shipped from the manufacturer and will arrive in 2-3 weeks......

Umm...no can do.  I have a sausage project that I need to complete next week.  Any suggestions/sources you can point me to?

Thank you my friends.

Does the bearing have a number on it?  You can google this name Applied Industrial Technologies ( used to be Detroit ball bearing) and they should be able to match it.  If no number then call and tell them the dimensions and if it is sealed and they should be able to match it.

McMaster-Carr ... just about everything.

Take it to a machine shop and ask them to spec it for you.

I believe all of Cabelas stuff is made in you know where ... LOL   They have the decals made locally

If you can remove the bearing, take it to a local bearing shop.  They should be able to measure it for you and get you a replacement.  It probably is something fairly standard.

There is a Grainger location in Hawaii, I'm not sure where though.  They may have one, if you don't have a local shop.

Thank you for the great suggestions and leads to Applied Industrial Technologies and McMaster-Car. This afternoon after work I went to an authorized Hobart repair station hoping the technician had something that could fit. The bearing is metric sized so he did not have anything.  We got to talking and he suggested I go to a machine shop to have a bearing made out of brass.  He said that is what bearings for my type of grinders were designed to be made of.  I took him up on that suggestion and as a result I am hoping to have a replacement bearing by Saturday or Monday the latest.    I am crossing my fingers as my sausage project is scheduled for next weekend.  The machine shop guy also gave me the measurements for my bearing should I need to check other outlets.  I think I will wait until Monday before I do anything else.

Coincidentally a  friend of mine I just found out also  has a Cabelas grinder......  he is willing to lend me for next week's project if I don't get my bearing made in time.

Joe,

Yes I'm still here. I'm still trying to improve upon my   Venison , Longanisa, and Hawaiian Portuguese Sausages. Lucky for me that I am now retired and can spend whatever time I want on my bonsai, sausage making/smoking, and  traveling.   Its good to see that you , Erain, and BearCarver are always coming up with great recipes that inspire.

Take Care...

Glad you were able to find a way to replace your bearing for your grinder.  I was Maui couple weeks ago Hunting and had some Portuguese sausage from a guy who's last name was Bothelo I believe. The sausage was very good and tasty!  I'm with you always trying to improve upon what I did last.  Ive never tried Longanisa though might look it up to give it a try next time.  I'm working on a Vinha D'ahlos style Portuguese sausage right now. Really like it but needs some tweaking to fine tune it.

Take care and enjoy the retired life!!!

Aloha,

Dom
