Sausage in freezer?

This might be a stupid question but I was wondering how long can you store homemade fresh sausage in the freezer?  And is there better ways of freezing it, Plastic bags, freezer wrap, or vacuum seal.  My brother in law and I are going to make a bunch of breakfast, german garlic, and hot Italian but don't want to make too much if it will loose its quality over a period of time.


Any suggestions would be helpful

I've had some in freezer for a year with no problem. I always vacuum seal mine.

Thanks, What do you think about using those plastic meat bags?

I just some but have not tried them yet. I would think they would work great if you pack them good to try and get the air out.

Vacume bags are the best way to go in my opinion.  I used to wrap all my meats and sausage in freezer paper for years. Properly wrapped it could last for a year but over time even butcher freezer wrap will run into freezer burn.  When you store sausage for example in sealed vacume bags make sure it's dated, labeled, and placed in the freezer so the package wont get damaged. once damaged with even the smallest hole or crack the product will quickly get freezer burn.  Sealed vacume bags will last over a year.  Reinhard

I can second what Reinhard said.  If you want to store for a long period of time, vacuum sealed bags are the only way to go.  Label and dated is smart as well.
