Charcoal and wood chips smoking question.

Newbie tivadoc form Pittsburgh, PA here. I set up my new Masterbuilt 30 and I'm proofing it now. As I read the instruction booklet, see a smoking chart for various meats with times, temps, etc. For example, under Brisket they recommend 3 cups of wood chips and 7-8 lbs of charcoal. Does that mean wood chips until the 3 cups is gone, and then finish cooking to temperature with charcoal in the smoker?

Welcome to the forum. Not sure about the master builts, but generally wood chunks work better than chips - do a search for master built and I'm sure there are some folks that show how they set it up.

Good morning, I have never owned a  Masterbuilt or any electric smoker but I have had experience with chips, chunks, splits and logs I have an off set RF smoker, I would find the phone number for Masterbuilt and call them and see what they recommend. Ask questions see if it is ok to use chunks. Also I am quite sure there will be some Masterbuilt owners that can provide the right information. I will take chips soak them for a few, wrap them in foil and poke holes to use on my gas grill sometimes. seems like chips burn up pretty quick. Hang in there you will get it figured out.

Usually electric smokers take pre soaked wood chips of your liking, I soak mine for 30 min.  Start the chips on smoker ahead of the game and when it starts smoking its game on.
