New fire grate

Thread Starter

Excited about my new fire grate.  Had a buddy at work make the basket. there is 1/2 in bar stock under the EM, so it should hold up just fine. Cost me $12 in EM, and the bar stock was scrap. Paying the labor in meat.

Unfortunately I have a construction project going on in our living room, and since I prefer to stay married, I have to spend my time finishing that...  But I will fire her up soon.

Hoping for a couple of hours burn around the "U"

I dont think it will work. I think the heat will cause the fire to jump rows. The boxes like that I have seen that work and solid plates with air space between them

be interested to know if this works or not

He may be able to get away with inserting a solid plate in between, as long as the coals don't sit right on the plate and are held away by the grate it should not get hot enough to ignite the other side and he should not have a problem with the fire jumping.
